I’m Marilou Dacanay, a licensed marriage and family therapist in Oregon, and the only clinician here. When you write, I’m the one who answers, and the person you meet first is the person you keep working with.
I started Loom Therapy for adults whose families hold a great deal: obligations that go back generations, money sent across an ocean, parents and grandparents who rarely say how they feel. The people in these families are often the strong ones, and the strong ones seldom get listened to.
I don’t think the answer is to pull away from your family, or to give in to everything it asks. The work is to see clearly what you owe, what you want and what is yours to decide.
I named the practice for the loom because a family is woven from many hands. Pull on one thread and the rest moves.
