Questions you might carry
Everything you might want to know before reaching out. If your question is not here, just ask.
01Do you take my insurance?
I am out of network, so I do not bill insurance plans. Some PPO and POS plans reimburse part of the cost of out-of-network care, and your plan decides. I do not bill Medicare or Medicaid.
02How can I use a superbill?
A superbill, the itemized receipt I send you each month, may be submitted to your plan to ask for reimbursement, and your plan decides whether to pay. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see.
03What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of the cost of care before you start. I give you one before your first session. It is an estimate and not a contract.
04How much does it cost, and how do fees work?
Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session. The page on how fees work explains self-pay, receipts, the estimate and cancellations.
05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. HSA and FSA cards are accepted for sessions.
06What happens in the first session?
We talk for 50 minutes about what you hope for and what is on your mind. I explain how sessions work, what stays private and where its limits are, and how fees work. You decide at the end whether it feels like the right fit.
07How often will we meet, and for how long?
Sessions are 50 minutes. We agree on how often to meet and change it when your life does.
08Are you licensed where I live?
I am licensed in Oregon. For video sessions you need to be in Oregon during the session. If you are elsewhere, I am glad to help you look for someone licensed where you live.
09What do I do in a crisis?
This office does not monitor messages around the clock. If you are in crisis, call or text 988. In an emergency, call 911.
10What is confidential, and what are the limits?
I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. The limits, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, are explained in your first session.
11Do you see teens or children?
No. I work with adults, 18 and older. If you are looking for care for a child, I can help you find a clinician who sees children.
12What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel. A late cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session.
